Nonintercepting ODR Diagnostics for Multi-GeV Electron Beams

Alex Lumpkin
Argonne National Lab

The nonintercepting (NI) characterizations of multi-GeV and/or high average current beams are critical for many operating facilities and proposed x-ray free-electron lasers (FELs), energy recovering linacs (ERLs), APS Upgrade, and the international linear collider (ILC). The use of optical diffraction radiation (ODR) as a NI relative beam size and position monitor in a linear transport line has recently been demonstrated with near-field focusing optics at APS for 7-GeV beams. The NI technique's relevance to APS topup operations, the present CEBAF operations, and future facilities as well will be addressed.
