The R&D programs based on various approaches, at BNL, FZ-Rossendorf, Beijing University and AES generate optimism that low emittance continuous wave operating SRF-guns and injectors will be available in the near future. This contribution highlights present status of these programs, as well as, it presents a recently proposed alternative approach for the SRF-gun design with thin lead spot as the photo-cathode for generation of electrons in a bulk niobium cavity operating at 2K.
