After developing theories for gain, attenuation and coherent radiation in Smith-Purcell free electron lasers we are now optimizing our electron beam and finishing theoretical predictions for power output.  We plan to initially produce radiation at 1 mm and about 0.5 mm wavelengths at nanowatt power levels.  A summary of our theoretical work and experiments to test these predictions will be presented.
