Overview of Present Status of CSR Studies

Rui Li
CASA, JLab

Recent advances in research of coherent synchrotron radiation (CSR) effects during bunch compression have underscored the importance of this phenomenon in the design of free-electron lasers and other high-brightness light sources. This talk will give an overview of present studies of CSR with topics covering CSR related beam dynamics, benchmark of various codes, and experimental observations. The recent development of studies on the CSR induced microbunching instability will also be discussed. This talk also serves as a summary of the ICFA Mini-Workshop (http://www.desy.de/csr) which concentrated on computation and modeling of the CSR effect during magnetic bunch compression.
