MeV Electron Beams for Detection of Explosives

Andrei Afanasev
JLab

Various techniques for detection of concealed explosives will be reviewed. Nuclear methods appear to be the most realiable and efficient. Certain nuclear reactions induces by photons in the energy range of tens of MeV may signal presence of high concentration of nitrogen and oxygen characteristic for explosives. Implementation of appropriate techniques would require continuous beam electron accelerators with variable energies under 100 MeV.
